Latin Dances and Addresses in Santiago de Cuba
Salsa developed from Son and Mambo. It is the original Mambo danced in the 50s.
The Rumba is an African form of dancing.
The Rumba has 3 different manifestations
1. Colombia: danced by men alone in a creative , individualistic frenzy.
2. Yambu’: for people over 60 years, a simple rhythmic dance, in couples.
3. Guaguanco : dance in pairs, where the man tries to “trick” the woman who keeps covering her front and behind (with her large skirt , if she has one on, or her hands if she hasn’t), dancing side by side or far, trying to be very seductive, but eluding him if she can. A very erotic, beautiful dance.

My teacher in Santiago de Cuba is Yoannis
At left and below, Yoannis, el rey de baile de Santiago de Cuba, my new teacher in Son, Salsa and in future, La Rumba
Yoannis, a 22 year old dancer and dance teacher, teaches dancing to "la clave" (two hardwood sticks, beaten in 1,2 and 3, 1, 2 rythm.)
The difficulty for any foreigner is, to be able to hear "la clave" and to step to it. It is absolutely essential for dancing son and salsa.
Apart from his native Spanish, Yoannis speaks French.
Prof. de Baile,
Yoannis Tamayo.
